2024 New Year Message from Global President

Today, with 2023 almost behind us, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the many dedicated alumni who invested their time, talents, and resources in 2023 to grow and build Aburi Girls.

As we enter 2024 with an eternal hope for a brighter year, I’d like to share a sampling of your feedback over the few months I have served as Global President. One thing has remained constant: You have all expressed a wish for Aburi Girls to be “more” than it is now.

You want Aburi Girls to be “more,” as in:

  • Restoring its place as the premier senior high school in Ghana.
  • Focusing on renovating and construction of new buildings for an improved look of the School’s facilities.
  • Reimagining and reinvigorating open spaces on campus for greater access and utility.
  • Greater achievement in global and local competitions such as the National Maths and Science Quiz.

The above, and more, are achievable, but our current status quo stands in our way.

If we want to have something about our School to brag about, we need to invest more. Our biggest obstacles to reaching our goal of achieving “more” for Aburi Girls remains our financial contributions and a lack of coordination in the ways we choose to support our School. This is why our focus in 2024 and beyond has to be on resolving these issues and moving forward with purpose.

Many other schools are growing exponentially due in large part to the contributions and commitment of old students. We should also. This starts with YOU (as an individual) and with US (as a collective), joining together globally to “do more” by investing in Aburi Girls.

Without disrupting what we each contribute to our Year Groups, I’d like to challenge each of us to be open to making annual individual contributions to Global AOGA. I’d like to propose individual annual contribution of GHS 60.00 (for those who live in Africa) or $60, €60 or £60 (for those who live in North America or Europe). More details of the Transformational Philanthropy Fundraising Drive will be unveiled during the Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, January 28, 2024.
